Migrating to a new version of a content management system (CMS) is a key step for any organisation that wants to maintain high standards of accessibility, security and modernity for its website. This is particularly true for public institutions, which are required to comply with WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines). Switching to ICEberg CMS 5 is an investment that not only meets current regulations, but also provides long-term benefits in terms of automatic updates to WCAG standards, improved UX (User Experience) and more efficient content management.

Legal requirements - why is migration necessary?

Year after year, more and more public institutions are being subjected to increasingly stringent requirements to bring their websites up to WCAG standards. In particular, schools and cultural units under the auspices of the City Offices in Krakow and Warsaw must comply with the new requirements. What's more, as a company, we already have experience in implementing WCAG for Warsaw City Hall units (e.g. ZMW), which means we know how to effectively adapt websites to current regulations.

Automatic WCAG update in ICEberg CMS 5

Your institution currently uses ICEberg CMS 4, which has WCAG solutions built in, but these are updated manually. We offer the possibility of implementing a slightly newer version of WCAG for CMS 4, but it will not be as advanced as that available in ICEberg CMS 5.

The main difference between version 4 and 5 is in the way accessibility is updated:

  • ICEberg CMS 4 - manual update of WCAG standards,
  • ICEberg CMS 5 - automatic update of WCAG and the CMS itself.

Migrating to the new version means that once implemented, accessibility standards will be updated regularly, adapting to changing regulations and increasing technological requirements.

Exemplary implementation - model WCAG

One of our most recent implementations that can serve as an example is the fdpa.org.pl website, where we applied the latest version of WCAG. This site showcases all the accessibility features that ICEberg CMS 5 offers, including various personalisation options for users.

WCAG jako element strategii wizerunkowej

Website accessibility is not only about meeting legal requirements, but also an important part of an image strategy. Facilities such as:

  • high contrast mode,
  • possibility to turn off animation,
  • enlarged font,
  • other personalisation options,

are useful not only for people with disabilities, but also for all users who appreciate the comfort of the site.

Migration costs - what is worth knowing?

Migrating to ICEberg CMS 5 is not a simple upgrade, but a comprehensive process of moving to a new version of the system. It requires advanced implementation work, including template recoding and content migration.

Migration costs:

  • Subscription - for existing customers remains unchanged, for new customers the cost is in the order of PLN 1500-2500 net per year (updates, warranty, support). This is an optional service. Without its purchase, the website will work.
  • Migration budget - one-off cost related to implementation work, calculated individually
  • Range of costs - depending on the needs and scope of work, the cost may range from a few to around PLN 10,000 net.

Migration can also be an opportunity to refresh the website and make additional improvements.

New features and improvements to ICEberg CMS 5

In addition to being WCAG compliant, the move to a new version of the CMS involves a number of innovations that will improve the functionality of the website:

  • AI integration - automation of content management processes,
  • Improved mobile optimisation - faster and more responsive display on mobile devices,
  • Enhanced security - modern technologies to protect against cyber threats,
  • Automatic updates - regular system and feature updates without the need for user intervention.

Summary

Migrating to ICEberg CMS 5 is a step towards modernity, security and full compliance with the latest WCAG standards. With automatic accessibility and system updates, public bodies can avoid manual work and provide users with more convenient access to content. The cost of the migration is a one-off and provides the opportunity for an additional refresh of the site, which is an investment in the future.
